Short Liner Method

The Top Hat Repair Robot, together with transporter, is the ideal equipment for rehabilitation of sewer pipes with diameters up to 20 inches.

Top Hat Cosmic Lateral Connection Sealing System

Pro-Pipe utilizes the Cosmic Top Hat Lateral Connection Sealing System for sewer main lines 6” to 20” in diameter and sewer laterals of 4”, 6” and 8” in diameter (Pro-Pipe can also install Top Hats on 10” and 12” diameter sewer laterals with the use of a special carrier). The Cosmic Top Hat System enables sewer lateral-to-main connections to be repaired quickly and effectively from the inside of the sewer via a manhole or other access.

The Cosmic Top Hat System consists of repair robots, applicators for all operations, liners and seamless insert laminates, using a UV light curing process that can be completed in as few as 7 minutes.  The Cosmic Top Hat System, developed in Austria, has been in operation for about 20 years in locations all over the world and is backed by a 50-year material guarantee.

In order to repair a sewer lateral at the point of intersection to the main, a remote-controlled robot (fitted with a Top Hat insert placement unit) enters the sewer via the manhole, positions the Top Hat into the proper section of sewer, and places the laminate. Using UV light, the curing time for the Top Hat is only 7 minutes. The entire damage within the sewer can be repaired from the inside in as little as 15 minutes. Thus, there is no need to divert the sewer during the sewer rehabilitation process.

Steps of Top Hat Sewer Repair

  1. "Before" Video Inspection The main and sewer laterals are inspected with rotating and self-leveling cameras prior to initiating the sewer rehabilitation with the Top Hat System.
  1. Cutting Cutters for the main sewer, lateral cutters, and root cutters are used to eliminate deposits, roots, misaligned collars or other objects in the sewer.
  1. Cleaning or Jetting The sewer main and laterals are cleaned or jetted to clear debris from the lines prior to insertion of the Top Hat.
  1. Insert System A robot inserts a glass-fiber reinforced Top Hat into the damaged sewer lateral/main connection and places the laminate to complete the process until the Top Hat cures.
  1. Short Liner System The Top Hat Short Liner System was developed to repair damage around collars, longitudinal cracks or burst pipes.  In this scenario, the Short Liner System uses glass-fiber reinforced laminates to repair these segments with self-propelled packers.  The Insert System and Short Liner System can be combined into one step with the proper equipment.
  1. "After" Video Inspection Video inspection of the repaired sewer is performed to document the before and after effects of the Top Hat System sewer rehabilitation.  This “after” video inspection can be done immediately following the curing process, which lasts only 7 minutes.
